Denver Flea, New Classes, and a Call for Artists

If you’ve been into Wine & Whey, I’d be willing to bet it was for a class that we offer regularly, right? Well, that’s awesome! In an effort to keep things fun and interesting here, we are adding some cool new classes to our roster!   First, just a reminder, that Denver Flea is coming back to the RiNo for two days only, on June 25th and 26th, so don’t miss out on that. WineMaker Magazine Conference 2016

The WineMaker Magazine Conference and International Wine Competition was held in beautiful Sonoma Valley this year! Pamela and Michele spent two days going to seminars, networking, and of course, trying all sorts of wine from winemakers around the world (such hard work). Of course, throughout everything, their biggest take away was how much fun it was to be surrounded by winemakers all on a similar journey. However, they also learned a ton of new information and made connections with amazing new friends! They took really interesting and fun classes, including a wonderful class on palate diversity that taught a lot about how and why everyone tastes wine so differently (spoiler: the “areas of the tongue taste different components” theory has been proven a myth). Michele was…

Burrata is actually a fairly new cheese, having only been around about a hundred years. First made by a family in the southeast coast of Italy (the heel of the boot, if you will), burrata was invented around 1920. It was kept in the family until around 1950 when commercial cheese makers figured out it was a great way to use the bits of leftover mozzarella that were going to be thrown out. What they’d traditionally do is make a…

Wine & Whey’s Own Brings Home the Gold!

“Tarte Tatin is the French name for this famous dessert invented years ago by the Demoiselles Tatin, in their restaurant at Lamotte-Beuvron on the Loire River,” Julia Child’s iconic voice was loud and clear in my head while reading her words. The tatin dessert, created by accident, was first made around 135 years ago. Luckily, we get to reap the benefits of this “accident” in the form of a delicious pastry and a yummy port wine! Pamela, co-founder of Wine & Whey, used one of the kits that are sold in our shop to make an Apple Tatin Port wine that is nothing short of perfection. And, I’m not the only one who thinks so! Pamela was awarded the gold medal at the 2015 WineMaker…
